My journey into cycling didn't start in a pristine showroom; it started in the woods, riding dirt jumps and trials. When you push bikes to their limits, things break. Out of sheer necessity, I spent my youth pouring over mechanical manuals, teaching myself how to fix what I had broken just so I could keep riding.

That hands-on foundation led to over 20 years in the cycling industry, moving from the workshop bench to merchandising and sales management for major UK retailers. Seeing the industry from every angle shaped the vision for what Compton Cycles is today: a welcoming shop built on genuine mechanical expertise and inclusive problem-solving, entirely free from aggressive hard-sell tactics.

Because we are mechanics first, we have a deep aversion to disposable consumer culture. We know exactly how and why bikes fail, which is why we only stock products designed to endure, perform, and be repaired.

Our workshop is the beating heart of Compton Cycles. We focus on keeping you riding safely and smoothly with straightforward, honest servicing. (Please note: while we handle all standard maintenance and complex mechanical repairs, we do not provide frame restoration services).

• Jim: Passionate and thoughtful, Jim approaches every mechanical challenge by thinking through the problem from all angles. He doesn't just look for a quick fix; he is dedicated to finding a permanent, reliable solution to keep your bike running perfectly.
• Grant: Grant has been turning wrenches in our workshop for over two decades. His presence here is a true testament to loyalty, consistency, and lasting quality.
• Peta: Originally from Prague, Peta brings 25 years of mechanical experience to the workshop. With a background in racing both road and mountain bikes, Peta has the practical, firsthand knowledge to tune any rig for peak performance.
• Aaron: Aaron brings a wealth of specialized knowledge to the floor. If you have any technical inquiries regarding track bikes or fixed-gear setups, Aaron is your absolute go-to authority.

Try Before You Buy – Bike Test Rides

We believe the final choice should always be yours. After receiving honest, pressure-free advice from our team, a test ride allows you to make your own informed decision about what bike is right for you. Once you have found the perfect match, we work with you to hone and adjust the bike to your specific personal comfort and riding needs.

We offer free test rides on selected models, including Genesis, Gazelle, Surly, and Ridgeback. Our team will size you correctly and set up a safe local route from our Catford Hill store.
