The Story Behind the Saddle
The Brooks England story began in 1865 when John Boultbee Brooks started a leather goods company in Birmingham. The firm operated quietly until 1878, when a simple misfortune changed the cycling world forever.
After his horse passed away, Brooks was forced to borrow a friend's bicycle to commute. The experience of riding on the bicycle's solid wooden saddle was so uncomfortable that it inspired him to create a better solution. Using his expertise in leather goods, Brooks crafted the first leather cycling saddle- "a seat designed to be both durable and comfortable.
A Lasting Legacy
That uncomfortable ride in 1878 didn't just solve a personal problem; it laid the foundation for Brooks saddles to become a trusted name for cyclists seeking quality and comfort worldwide. Today, that legacy of innovation continues, offering products that are built to endure for years of riding.
