The Brooks England story is a classic tale of innovation born from necessity. It all began in 1865 when John Boultbee Brooks started a leather goods company in Birmingham. The firm operated without much fanfare until 1878, when a simple misfortune changed everything.
After his horse passed away, Brooks was forced to borrow a friend's bicycle to commute. The experience of riding on the bicycle's solid wooden saddle was so uncomfortable that it inspired him to create a better solution. Brooks's ingenious idea was to craft the first leather cycling saddle, using his expertise in leather goods to create a seat that was both durable and comfortable.
This moment of inspiration launched a legacy that continues today. The uncomfortable bike ride of 1878 didnt just solve a personal problem it laid the foundation for brooks saddles to become a trusted name for cyclists seeking quality and comfort worldwide

Compton Cycles was established in 1975 and has been helping cyclists in and around London and the South East to go places ever since. A well established bike shop situated in Catford South East London close to the Kent border with a number of local cycle routes ideal for family cycling or those longer distance journeys We stock a huge range of bikes including road, electric, Dutch, mountain, Kids and folding bikes.
